Cukrownia Pruszcz Gdański revitalization project, designed by APA Wojciechowski Architects for NDI Development. The former sugar factory will be transformed into a modern, multifunctional heart of the city.

The Pruszcz Gdański Sugar Factory is a symbol of the city, its economic heritage, with which the local community strongly identifies. The plant was established in 1881 on the initiative of Dr. Hermann Wiedemann. Until the 1930s, the sugar factory was gradually expanded and modernized. Beet and cane sugar was produced here. Despite partial destruction during World War II, the factory was quickly rebuilt. The plant operated until 2004, when it was closed and has been systematically deteriorating since then. To this day, it remains one of the oldest facilities of this type in Poland, and the characteristic, over 70-meter chimney is a recognizable symbol of Pruszcz Gdański.

The revitalization of the former plant, which is key for Pruszcz, and the reurbanization of the city's undeveloped areas open a new chapter, combining respect for the industrial heritage with the modern needs of future residents. The planned functions in the historical part include entertainment, recreation, trade, gastronomy, culture and education. The investor will also create a hotel, office space and medical facilities here. A sports center will be built in the northern part of the historical development, and the central part will be adapted for commercial and gastronomic functions with a food court.

The focal point of the project, which is a landmark of the entire city, is the historic chimney, under which there will be cafes and catering points. Another part of the historic buildings will be covered with a light orangery, which will contain restaurant summer gardens, allowing users to have contact with the surrounding architecture. The work is being carried out in close cooperation with the monument conservator.

One of the greatest assets of the project will be green areas. Vegetation will fill not only the spaces between individual quarters. Parks, recreational areas on the Radunia river and walking paths will be created on the sugar factory premises. One of them is designed in the line of former railway tracks. Individual stages of the investment will be delivered successively as fully functioning elements of the urban structure.
